Updating from Arcadian v1.1.6

I have been using v1.1.6 without any problems, and would like to update to the latest and greatest.

Searching around I’m not sure what is the current version, or how to get it.

Do I need to pay an upgrade fee to get the latest? If so, where/how?

I found in my account download page v2.0.5 but I’ve seen talk of v2.1 and even later.

Seems like I need a major update, and I want to do all of this at once (not update to 2, then 2.1 and again to the latest).

How do I get the latest version of the theme?

What do I need to know to migrate from v1.1.6 to the current version?

Now that I’m re-reading the update page, maybe I’m confusing the theme version with the framework (Bootstrap) version.

If v2.0.5 is the current version of the theme, then I have the right theme.

Now I just have to find a way to create a staging area on the site, to migrate the small site that I have to the current theme.

Any advice on how to create a directory on my site to work on the the new version of the theme so it not be seen by the public?

I’ve done this once before, but it was two years ago. I think I created /stage and then change the log in page to point to the new theme.

BTW – I also use the child theme

    Hello,

Searching around I’m not sure what is the current version, or how to get it.

Here is a live changelog for the theme. You can see it by putting the following URL into your web browser or clicking the “Changelog” link at the footer of your Theme Options page from within your WordPress admin.

    http://themeblvd.com/changelog?theme=arcadian

Additionally, at the bottom of the ThemeForest Item Details page for this product you can see a list of all versions posted and what dates they were posted. Look under “Changelog” towards the end of the page:

Any advice on how to create a directory on my site to work on the the new version of the theme so it not be seen by the public?

There are really tons of ways you could do this. I guess it’s just up to you and what ways you know how to do this.

If you don’t have the web server knowledge to do this, or your host doesn’t have a feature that does this (for example, WPEngine has a feature), then probably the easiest way is just to make a copy of your site on your local computer. If you’re using a Mac, you can use MAMP, and if your’e using a Windows computer, you can use WAMP — these programs essentially just a get a little simulated web server running on your computer. If you’re doing any kind of child theme, WordPress, or PHP development, being setup to develop from your local computer is good knowledge to have.

I found in my account download page v2.0.5 but I’ve seen talk of v2.1 and even later.

You’re just getting the theme version and framework version mixed up. — All of our themes contain a shared framework. This framework has it’s own version. Currently this is v2.4. Then, your actual theme has it’s own version number, which is currently 2.0.5.

In other words, Arcadian v2.0 contains Theme Blvd framework v2.4.

How do I get the latest version of the theme?

Go to your ThemeForest downloads page and just download the theme again. This will always be the latest version, as ThemeForest is the only place this theme is distributed from.

What do I need to know to migrate from v1.1.6 to the current version?

Make sure to browse the changelog entry “2.0.0” — this has most of the relevant information for making the jump up.

And then the update article you want to focus on is here:

Now that I’m re-reading the update page, maybe I’m confusing the theme version with the framework (Bootstrap) version.

If you’re going through the info and you ever see “Bootstrap”, this is something different than what we’ve talked about before. We’re referring to Twitter Bootstrap, which is a frontend CSS framework the theme framework contains. It’s versioning is it’s own thing.

(This is one of many frontend CSS/javascript plugins the theme contains)

OK – got my staging site built (created a subdomain, and then cloned my live site to there to work on). Then copying all my changes back to the live site.

Fixed a few more things. Then completed all the tweaks in the WP admin pages.

    Totally up to date!
