Updating From Akita V1.0.0

    Hi –

The theme hasn’t been updated from the begining and I wanted to know if you advise we do update it, perhaps because if we don’t then the site is more vulnerable to security threats?

We also need to update from Worpress V4.0.5 to V4.2.2

What order should we do this in and do you expect we will have any problems with the websites integrity once we upgrade Akita?

Where should I post our website so you can check, is there a separate area for that?

    Thanks for your help!

    John

    Hello John,

Have you made code customizations to theme files directly, or code customizations from a child theme?

You can send private info by going to My Account > Submit Private Info, but at this point, I’m not sure I need this.

For the sake of time, to get you going where you need to go faster, I’ll answer your question generally, assuming you haven’t been making code customizations. Basically the answer is to simply update both WordPress and the theme, and everything will work.

If you’ve made code customizations from a child theme, you obviously want to update a bit more cautiously on some sort of development environment, and just make sure all of your code customizations still work, before pushing to the live site.

Here’s how to update (nothing different than manually updating any other theme):

    http://support.themeblvd.com/docs/theme-updates/#themeforest

Note: You’ll have to use the “Manual” method because the in-dashboard updates were not implemented until v2.

Now, in going from v1 to v2, some things will now work differently in regards to the theme. So, when you’re looking at your changelog, you’ll probably want to skim through the “2.0.0” entry:

    http://themeblvd.com/changelog?theme=akita

Also, in updating you want to make note of the items listed in that article linked to from that 2.0.0 entry of the changelog:

    http://support.themeblvd.com/updating-to-framework-v2-3/

… The big thing here is that after you update the theme, it will prompt you to install a set of plugins that restore functionality that the theme used to have built-in. It’s important that you take this step right away.

    Hi Jason –

All we have done is use the elements and features available within the theme to build the site, so I would say we have not made any ‘code customisations’.

But just to make sure, where and how exactly would ‘code cusomisations’ have been placed had we made them?

I think you would know if you were making code customizations. These would be things made to physical theme files via your own code editor or from Appearance > Editor of your WP admin where you’re given access to theme files.
