Server Error Potentially Linked to Theme code

    Howdy,
My server, Kinsta, is throwing the following error on their error log, and it looks like it is a theme issue. When I try to load the page it is going me a “Failed to Load page because of too many redirects” option. I have successfully enabled the Twenty fifteen with all plugins deactivated. Even with all plugins deactivated and my Swagger Child Theme activated it is still giving the same error. Thoughts?

    Hi Tim,

What version of Swagger do you have installed? And are you using a child theme?

The error you’re encountering is from a third-party script included that helps you with installing recommended plugins when you install the theme.

So, first I want to make sure you’re not getting the error because you’re using an older version of Swagger (something that was fixed through updates).

And then second, if you are using the latest version of Swagger and still having these issues — if you were using a child theme, I could very easily give you a fix you could add to it to just disable this script all together.

Looking more into the issue, the author says it was fixed in v2.4 of his script called “TGM Plugin Activation”:

    https://github.com/TGMPA/TGM-Plugin-Activation/issues/156#issuecomment-37822319

And in Swagger 2.1.2, the TGM script was updated to v2.4:

    http://themeblvd.com/changelog/?theme=swagger

So, this leads me to think maybe you’re not up-to-date with your Swagger theme? Hopefully then updating should solve the issue for you.

    Hi Jason,
Thanks for the quick reply! I did update to the most current version, now at 2.1.8, sorry I thought I was on the most current version before. I don’t see that specific error any more in the log, but the page is still giving me the same message about too many redirects and won’t load. It looks like there might be an ajax problem as there is still another error.

The most current log says, ”
    POST /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php HTTP/1.1″ 200 81 “http://seniorsafeohio.kinsta.com/wp-admin/themes.php?theme=swagger” “Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_10_4) AppleWebKit/600.7.12 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/8.0.7 Safari/600.7.12”

Yes, I am using a child theme.

    Thanks,
    Tim

Apologies, but don’t know why you’d be getting a too many redirects error. But yeah it would make sense that the error you were citing about TGM wouldn’t really have anything to do with that. I assume you’re using the latest version of WordPress? And if so, have you tried contacting your web host?

    #22763

Yep, I have contacted my host and they were unsure about the error, it is a high-end WordPress managed host, Kinsta, everything is up to date on their end.

Hm, did you deactivate Swagger, to confirm that’s what’s doing it? I just don’t see how this could have anything to do with the theme? Seems really odd.

    #22765

Yep, I have deactivated all plugins with Swagger still active – same problem, then I switched to Twenty Fifteen and it does work so it seems the problem is exclusive to Swagger. For what it is worth, it does the same thing when the Child Them is active or the Parent Theme.

Want me to give you a username and password to see it?

When I click around the pages of your site, I see different themes applied to different pages, and even different versions of Swagger. How is this possible? What controls this? This has to relate to your problems.

And now when I look at your site, and click around pages, I’m seeing Swagger 2.1.8 consistently, and your homepage isn’t in redirect loop any more?

    #22769

I can’t even access the staging site at http://seniorsafeohio.kinsta.com, are you able to see it? I can’t access anything.

Yeah, I see your staging site. When I click the link you just posted, I see:

… These are all definitely server issues you’re having in your staging site. The theme doesn’t have anything in it that would cause a redirect loop. In fact, it has nothing that would redirect anything (well, except if you had the Redirect page template applied to a page, which is irrelevant here).

    #22771

Ok, great, it appears it is working now. Thanks for your time, sorry about the hassle!

    #22772

My host set the permalink to default and that was the fix.
