post list or grid, no effective post number limit

Hi – I’m trying to set up a single, most recent, full width post at the top of my home page (with a 3 column list of posts below that.) However, whichever element I try for the “featured above” section in the “builder”, and whatever number of posts I set as to be displayed – all posts are listed – I want just one (on top.) There is no problem displaying my 3 column grid of posts in the “primary area”
    any thoughts?
    thanks

I can’t say I’ve ever heard of that one before. Are you by chance using the “Custom Query” option in these elements at all? — I ask because this would cause the selecting of how many posts to have no effect by design.

OK – well, no idea how that resolved itself, but after switching back and forth I now have only one post showing in my post list as required.

So the next thing would be whether I am able to have that 1st most recent post be omitted from the 3 column list below my featured area…?

Jeze – sorry – so after adding a paginated post list under my header post list of one – the thing broke again, so the feature / header list is now a list of 10 instead of 1.

when it was working previously, I had an unpaginated post grid
when I delete the paginated grid and add a plain grid, then the single entry post list above, it works again…
    am I making sense!?

So, my layout only works without a paginated grid – but then there is no apparent way to visit older posts…
