Page Grid or Custom Post, Jump Start 2

I think I must be missing something obvious but I’m stumped.

I am developing a site for a riding school with a variety of programs. One the home page I need to display the programs like a post in a grid – image, excerpt, “more details button”. When they click on the button it should take them to the program discription which has custom fields in it arranged in two columns (2/3, 1/3).

If I use a “post” for the program info I can easily display them in all sorts of ways on the home page but can’t seem to get custom fields to display on the post. I tried using Types and Views but Jumpstart doesn’t recognize them as posts so won’t use them in a post grind.

    – Is there a way to create a custom “templated” post? with JS or TV?
    – is there a way for JS to recognize custom posts?

If i use a “page” I can create a lovely custom template that displays my content perfectly but cannot display them as a grid on the home page. I tried putting the pages into columns but only get content.

    – is there a way to display a page like a post in a post grid (image/except/button) – one page per column would work fine.

Would post or pages be best for my program info? My preference would be posts so I could use all the cool grids and sliders in JS.

Did more research and it looks like a post is the way to go. I can get some of what I want by using a banner and a sidebar but its not ideal.

Is there any way to use a template on a post?

Just found the Layouts to Posts plugin – problem solved.

Jason – do you have a list of which of your plugins should be added to the Beta? Some of the functionality of some of them seem built in while others are not.

BTW have I told you how awesome this template is lately?

    Hi,

Yup, you can use the plugin to add templates to posts.

Alternatively, you can also use pages in a post grid, as well. After all, pages are posts, just a custom post type called Pages.

… This would probably make more sense because these programs are not going to be a part of a blog, if you end up creating one. And then you don’t want those “program” posts randomly appearing your blog feed.

I don’t have a list of plugins. Eventually there will be something up at themeblvd.com that serves as a homepage for plugins, but that’ll come in time.

I’m trying to make sure everything out there (that is relevant) works with the latest Jump Start 2. I’m just sort of fixing any plugins that people find that don’t work. Currently an important one on the to-do list is the Image Sizes plugin — Have you found something else that doesn’t work?
