No category selector in template

    Hi
In the template I once set up for this page – http://www.dolcevita.no/nyhetsbrev-arkiv/ – there is no post list showing at the top.
Looking up the template, it turns out that inside the “post list” element there is no longer any category selector (please see screenshot). I am quite certain that there WAS and should be a dropown menu to select one or more categories, but now there’s only a checkbox for All categories – which will display lots of wrong content.
    Any idea why this happens?
    Thanks,
    Kjetil

    OK… this is just weird:
I looked up the page once again (as I did 3-4 times before and while I wrote the post above) – and now the post list is in place – and the template looks and works just as it should. The category selector also is there with the appropriate category selected.
The only thing I’ve done after posting was to make a minor change to the page’s content – but I wouldn’t believe that just that should have any influence on the template builder’s functionality…?
Well, now it works. Don’t know what happened.
    Cheers,
    Kj

    Hi KJ,

First off, I believe it will only show categories that contain posts (I thought I changed this at one point so it will show you empty categories, but I can’t remember).

Second, are you using the WPML plugin? I believe when you’re selecting the categories, it’s only going to show you the ones that correspond to the language you’re currently editing your WP admin in. WPML filters category listings, and this effects things in your admin panel, as well as on the frontend of your site.

    Thanks, Jason
    but
    – there are lots of posts in that category “nyhetsbrevene” (newsletters):
    http://www.dolcevita.no/category/nyhetsbrevene/
    – I do not use wpml or any other “language” plugin. Our site is set up in Norwegian, though.
Anyway, it works now and I could rather come back to you if it happens again, ok?
(If it could be helpful to you/ if you think there’s a bug in the theme or something, I could gladly set up an admin login for you to have a look. In case, drop me an email – kjetil@mysite: – that’s dolcevita.no)
    Thanks,
    Kj

You would have to have some sort of plugin messing with how categories are listed, or some sort of custom filter maybe you’ve done from your child theme on pulling categories. I can’t think of any other explanation. The way the builder is pulling the categories is extremely elementary. It just wouldn’t make sense that the list would not populate, unless something else was interfering.

    Thanks
I’ll try to narrow it down in a couple of days when I’m a little less busy.
