Migrate from AKITA to GNAR

Dear Jason,
After 4 year on Akita, and because your new theme GNAR is action and travel,
i’m thinking about purchase it and change my website (baliberty.com = diving company in Bali)
from Akita to GNAR.
Because i’m not developper neither webdesigner, i need your point of view and recommandations before :
1. what is the main difference between v2.4 theme and v.2.5+ ?
2. If i just switch from Akita to Gnar in the WP admin/theme appearance, what will happen ?
3. if trouble, can i just come back to Akita wihtout any lost ?
4. Do i have to re-create then re-set all the templates, layout, slider (reimport image..), widget, ….? is GNAR admin interface designed in the same way tha Akita ?
5. How difficult wil it be ? (do i need to contract professional web designer to manage the migration? who?)

1. what is the main difference between v2.4 theme and v.2.5+ ?

Everything works very similarly, for the most part. The biggest difference is just that the layout builder has more features added to it, than it did before. It’s basically the same interface, with just more buttons, options, and elements added.

It would be helpful to watch the basic theme overview video, even though most of the info should be stuff you already know.

Pretty much the same thing will happen as if you switch to any new theme, no matter who made it. — All of your WordPress content like posts, pages, etc, will remain. But you’ll need to obviously re-setup the theme options page. Also, you’ll need to reassign your menus at Appearance > MenusAppearance > Widgets (although most of your widgets will still be configured, but in the “Inactive Widgets” section, which you can then just drag to the proper widget areas).

3. if trouble, can i just come back to Akita wihtout any lost ?

Yes and no. —

One big thing that happens when you switch to the new theme will be that any old custom layouts you had will have their data updated and converted to the new version of the layout builder. But one thing you can do is before you switch to Gnar, you can export your current custom layouts from WP Admin > Tools > Export. Then, you’d have XML file of them, if you needed them, which you could import back if you switched again (although this will be more of a pain than switching in the first place, you might well just commit).

I think I’ve mostly already answered this above. As far as sliders go, they will still be there and work, but I’m trying to push everyone away from using the sliders plugin. There are now more options within the theme and layout builder itself for implementing different kinds of sliders that will look better than the older Theme Blvd sliders plugin.

I don’t really see why you’d need to hire someone, but I guess that all depends on you. I can’t really say.

Thanks for your answer, advice and point of you. I need to think about it, a bit longer..
I’m a bit afraid about this migration but in the same time very excited by your new GNAR which is SO TERRIFIC, and AWSOME…I can’t look forward testing it .

By the way, i’m living in Indonesia and unfortunately, vimeo is not allowed in this country.
Could you move few of your main tutorials on a youtube channel ?
