    Hi Jason,

I bought the first Complexity theme, I haven’t updated it. I’m hoping to get a little more SEO traction and I’ve read some good things about footer links. I’ve tried adding them and there isn’t enough of the background in order for the text to fit. I really don’t know much about code at all….I looked some things up and added a to try to create some more space but that didn’t work. Any suggestions? Thank you.

    Hello Whitney,

Unfortunately, there’s no option in the theme that’s going to allow you to expand on this. You’d need to customize the background image and CSS associated here in order to accomplish this, and I don’t think it’s going to be all that easy.

You can see by looking at the backgorund image, things are sort of carefully calculated the way are:

For CSS changes, it’s a good idea to use a tool like firebug or Google Chrome’s built-in developer tools to locate them and then put the edits either in your child theme or in the “Custom CSS” option on your theme options page.

Also, here’s a helpful tutorial on how to use Firebug – The only thing I’d suggest not doing is actually making edits to the theme’s CSS files, as it shows at the end of that video. However, the video serves as a good introduction to Firebug and how it can be used to find what CSS is effecting certain areas of your site without ever digging around in any files.
