    Good day,

I seem to be having some trouble editing the logo.

When I go click the smart object for the logo I get an error message “Could not edit original smart object because the application which created the smart object could not be launched

Any idea what’s going on here?

I am using Photoshop cs5 extended.

    Thanks!

    Hello Barry,

Which file are you trying to edit? The logo.ai file? Smart objects (i.e. vector elements) can’t be edited with Photoshop. Generally, you’d use Adobe Illustrator for that.

The logo included was a vector file created in Illustrator, and so if you were trying to edit it, you’d need to do it in Illustrator.

You’ll also need the Dancing Script font installed on your computer.

The logo there is a smart object created from the logo.ai file. You can’t edit a vector smart object in Photoshop (other than adjusting its size and applying layer effects to it).

To edit the actual logo itself, you’d need to open up logo.ai in Adobe Illustrator. Then, from your Illustrator canvas, you’d drag the logo to Photoshop and now it becomes a smart object you can use in Photoshop.

Kind of a pain to have to download illustrator just to edit the logo that’s already in a PSD, think about it.

An inconvenience, but I guess I have no choice.

    Thanks.

Have you ever made a logo or had a designer make a logo? You do not make a logo for a client in Photoshop. That’s just unprofessional and not how it’s done. If you make a logo in Photoshop, it’s just stuck at that size. Logos are always delivered in vector format.

Besides, it’s not like there’s really much to the Arcadian logo anyway. Just install the Dancing Script font and write out your new text in Photoshop. Judging from your question and response, I wouldn’t advise actually buying Illustrator if you don’t already have it and have a grasp on these concepts. You don’t need to learn a new software just to write some text out in that font.

Well, what would have been professional if you would have offered to edit the logo instead of forcing a customer to download another program just so they can edit the dang thing.

But I’m sure it wouldn’t be too hard to have done the text in photoshop itself then all you would have to do is change the font size, no resizing necessary 🙂

This is honestly not a topic that comes up very often with any theme. I don’t believe most people ar actually using the logo that came with the theme in their finished products. It’s more of a placeholder for you to put in your own brand.

And I apologize, but I’ve always kepy a strict policy that theme support does not include customizations. It’s not that I’m trying to be a jerk or be “unprofessional” but it’s a very slippery slope.

Man, I would have paid you to do any edits, keep that in mind for future customers.

Personally I think the theme is worth more the the 45 I paid for it however,  convenience should always be kept in mind as well.

I’ve been doing this for several years now and I have certain terms and a certain system that I apply to everyone. When I tell you that I don’t customizations, I’m truly not trying to sell you anything. I just don’t do customizations or any kind of freelance work, paid or unpaid, for anyone. It’s just not part of my business.
