Hi, I recently bought this Alyeska theme and looks wonderful; however, the dropdown menu (sub itmes: Homestead, Hello word, FAQ ) are not appearing in the top menu but in a kind of “shadow” without linking (pointer not appearing) when highlighting the menu. It looks like the white stripe is covering it, but I am not sure.

    I am attaching a pic.

    http://s2.subirimagenes.com/imagen/previo/thump_8880871menu-wordpress.png

    My site is this http://www.shorttermrentalsinmiami.com

Also, I noticed this plugin (Theme Blvd Shortcodes) was putting in blank everything, so I deactivated. I am not sure if the dropdown menu is related to this issue. The other thing is that I got this note on the top: “You currently have the “Theme Blvd Widget Pack” plugin activated, however you are not using a theme with Theme Blvd Framework v2.2+, and so this plugin will not do anything”

Could you help me please? Thank you

    Hello,

however, the dropdown menu (sub itmes: Homestead, Hello word, FAQ ) are not appearing in the top menu but in a kind of “shadow” without linking (pointer not appearing) when highlighting the menu. It looks like the white stripe is covering it, but I am not sure.

Your site is not the default Alyeska theme. It’s a pretty old version which has been put through many customizations. So the area you’re referencing is completely custom and not part of the theme. So I guess I’m a little confused by your question. Did you not customize the theme?

You’re currently using Alyeska 2.1 released in mid 2012, and we’re now on Alyeska 3.1.3.

You must be using a theme with version 2.2 of our framework, which corresponds to Alyeska 3.0+, in order to use either of these plugins.

I’m a little confused how you’re ending up with a customized version of the theme from a couple years ago if you’re recently purchased? Unfortunately it looks like all of your customizations have not been made properly from a child theme. So, I’m not sure updating will be very possible with keeping your custom look.

Ok, I didn’t know it.. That’s why.. Ok. I paid to an Indian guy to make the site.. but as always, these guys just charge you and disappear living you in the middle of the darkness., lol.. So, I just tried desperately in finding info about this theme for tutorials and google brought me here. But I found out that I had to pay for the theme to access to the videos and stuffs, so I had to buy your theme again to do that.
My question is that if I update it with the right theme, would it work better? and my other question is.. the child theme is an optional step or it would be better if I do it? I never have worked with this child theme thing..
Do you have any info in how to build it up?

    Thank you…

ps: Just curious. Why the wordpress board didn’t offer me or informed of an updated version of this theme Alyeska?

Should I use upload the child theme first and customize it and then the parent one? or viceversa? How this works?

    Thank you..

UPDATE: I tried to installed this theme again, the one with the child theme included, and this is what happened.

“The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet.

    Theme install failed.”

    Help please 🙁

My question is that if I update it with the right theme, would it work better?

The theme will work as advertised, and you can continue to keep it up to date. When there is an issue I can help you with it within the terms of support.

    http://support.themeblvd.com/help/#terms

The problem is that the theme by default doesn’t really look much like the setup that the person did for you.

the child theme is an optional step or it would be better if I do it?

The child theme is only for making code customizations. So you don’t need this unless you’re a developer, or planning to use a developer to programmatically customize the theme.

Should I use upload the child theme first and customize it and then the parent one? or viceversa? How this works?

It doesn’t matter which you upload first. They just both must be in your themes directory. And then you need to activate the child theme.

    Watch this video: https://vimeo.com/70832266

UPDATE: I tried to installed this theme again, the one with the child theme included, and this is what happened.

You’re not installing the right files. Upload alyeska.zip and upload alyeska-child.zip. These are two separate items. Now you should see that you have the Alyeska theme and the Alyeska Child theme present. Click to activate the Alyeska child theme.

While the main Alyeska parent theme remains inactive, WordPress is using it in the background to pull from.

ps: Just curious. Why the wordpress board didn’t offer me or informed of an updated version of this theme Alyeska?

Here’s how to set this up to check for updates when they’re released to ThemeForest:

Ok, I installed the child theme and activated and my site changed complete.. http://shorttermrentalsinmiami.com .. On the other hand, when I tried to install the alyeska-3.1.3.zip this is what I got: “Destination folder already exists. /home3/ctaveras/public_html/shorttermrentalsinmiami.com/wp-content/themes/alyeska/”…

Can I deactivate the child theme? I don’t know anything about programming or else…
what can I do to install the updated version of alyeska without that err?

Ok, I installed the child theme and activated and my site changed complete

First off, we know that the child theme simply feeds from the parent theme, as we talked about before, right? So, if you have an old version of Alyeska which has been completely customized by someone else, things probably aren’t going to be working too well, at this point, if you haven’t removed the previous theme this guy setup for you.

And once you do get everything working, you do know what the theme looks like out of the box, right?

Here’s what it looks like, if you don’t know: http://demoblvd.com/themes/alyeska/

So, you can expect a very different result than what you had before.

    Destination folder already exists. /home3/ctaveras/public_html/shorttermrentalsinmiami.com/wp-content/themes/alyeska/”

This essentially means exactly what it says. The guy you hired previously installed another version of Alyeska, right? Well, you can’t have two themes that are in the same folder. So you’d need to delete the previous alyeska theme first, before uploading the new one.

I would suggest getting into your server with an FTP program or however you mange files on your server and backing up the old version that you had someone setup for you before you delete it. You can find all of your theme files at /wp-content/themes/ where you have WordPress installed on your server.

Can I deactivate the child theme? I don’t know anything about programming or else…

Yeah, I would just forget about the child theme. There’s no need to use it unless you’re making code customizations.

Ok, what I did was backing up the site, however, I realized that I just need only to delete the theme old file /wp-content/themes/ instead of the ENTIRE files of the site in my FTP hosgator just to keep the plugins and configs.. So that’s what I did, and then upload the alyeska-3.1.3.zip . (I am not sure if I did it right but at least I got the new theme on with my plugins and configs).
Anyway, this is how it looks now http://shorttermrentalsinmiami.com . Obviously I need to make some changes, but now the background is not working. I tried to either change the color, images but nothing seems to work. I followed your vimeo video explaining how to do it but it still is not working. Any suggestions?

Under Appearance > Background, it looks like you’ve just selected the color #577b99. You’re not understanding how to apply the image? Or what are you not understanding exactly?

I understand how to apply the color.. I just need to save the changes and that’s it.. but they are not taking place… I honestly don’t know what I am doing wrong.

I ended up installing the child theme since I read in order to make color changes it would be better. I installed the firebug thing after watching videos, but I still can’t find the “background-color” when I point in the white part of the Alyeska theme. I want to change for another whatever color..

In the first pic above you’ll see that after doing the firebug check I couldn’t find anything related to the background color or anything. But when I click on the last arrow and get the url and take it directly into my hostagator… That’s what I get.. A mess of codes..( pic below) I did found a background of something but didn’t change it since I wasn’t sure. Check my pic.

    http://s2.subirimagenes.com/otros/previo/thump_8883006wordpressbackgroundf.jpg

I don’t know why is so complicated to change the background color.. Please help me.. I tried the normal way in the wordpress in the background section but it simply didn’t work…

ps: how to restore the old images broken in the middle of the page?

thank you for your help.. 😉

This is a better panorama of my pic. The last one reduced its size drastically.

This is becoming way too complicated. Can you send me a login to your WordPress admin so I can see if you’re doing something wrong under Appearance > Background, or if there’s a problem with the setup of your WordPress install?

You can send the info by going to My Account > Submit Private Info here on the support website. Please post here once you’ve sent the information.

And FYI about making CSS customizations — You wouldn’t ever be editing the minified CSS files. And there’s no reason to click to the file because the Firebug inspector is showing you what’s effecting the area you’re looking at. You just see how something is effected, and then override it from your child theme’s style.css.

Please next time you send any private information, as I mentioned above, remember to post back here at the topic so I know to check when I’m doing support.

I went into your site and applied a background through WordPress’s standard background setup. Everything worked as expected with no issues. You can see I applied a background image and color.

Looking at the page, I’m not quite sure what you could be missing? Maybe you’re not hitting the “Upload” button after selecting an image?

Hi Jason. I am not sure what’s going on but the changes you made are not reflected on the site. And I know that one has to push the upload button obviously but something is not working..

I made this video to make it more clear for you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5v_FGO7Ki7Y
    Let me know please

Hmm, it has to be something just on your end. I can see the changes I was making on your live site just fine, and can see them now. I wouldn’t have just made the change and not checked your site. Maybe caching in your browser or something? What web browser are you using?

Here’s what I’m seeing right now after you changed the color to red and kept the image:
