Sharing Jump Start Code Snippets via GitHub

    Hey Jason,

Since you have nothing going on and loaded with copious free time, I thought I’d offer up a suggestion regarding GitHub. It’s not like you are building a huge new version of a theme framework or anything like that.

I find myself using Paid Memberships Pro on a regular basis, developed by another awesome Jason out there in the WordPress world. He offers bits of code for expanding upon the already-awesome PMPro plugin via GitHub.

My most recent quandary had to do with assigning a custom WPJS template to a custom post type. Eventually, I found an answer and a chunk of code here in the forum, which reminded me of the GitHub concept.

Anyway, I’ve often wondered if you’ve considered something like this.

Thanks for all you do and the wonderful work that you have put into JumpStart, especially 2.0! It’s already the best tool out there for building WordPress websites, so in some twisted way I feel guilty even making this suggestion, but obviously not that guilty. 😉

    Hi Wendell,

You’re not the only one that has expressed interest for some sort of code snippet sharing solution, but right now it’s not on my to-do list. If I can get a little more traction around Jump Start (2) after it’s released I will try to come up with something for this.

I’m not sure Github is the way to go there. I haven’t really had many customers that seem to be around Github. I will probably end up building into a new dev.themeblvd.com site or something.

I still need to create a themeblvd.com, new wpjumpstart.com, and new dev.themeblvd.com — Right now these are things that are sort of pressing for me outside of just releasing Jump Start 2. But on a good note, I finished the documentation the other day… that was a big one that I wasn’t looking forward to.

    Hi Wendell,

I live in Colorado. I have a little group of Jump Start users (a users group! hah!) who meet once a month. We have a Google Group where we email each other about JS and WP stuff. A lot of beginners and a couple more advanced people. We try to help each other out before hitting up Jason on the forums, particularly when it comes to CSS questions.

As a group, we’ve gathered together some code snippets (for better or worse). Some are just frequently used filters (like the TB Image Sizes and Sidebar Layout) and some are add/remove actions with custom functions to change default display code or register a widget area.

I have all these code snippets on a private site I set up. I’m happy to host them there and just make the posts public. I’ll try to make sure the snippets are good and working and test out any that people might like to add. I’m pretty conservative about what I’ll post publicly because I don’t want to provide bad code or bad coding strategy. If you think another location would be better, I could contribute them there. Github would be fine, but it does sound like at this point it would be a user-maintained thing. Let me know at my contact form below if you’d like to do this together.

Hey Angela, I sent you an email through your website a week or two ago to get in contact about this and have not heard back (that I know of). Let me know when you can. Thanks.
