Changing background color

I want to change the white color that is the background right now to #0c2340. I tried modifying the theme.css file (b/c I’m used to working w/ code & CSS stuff) but was unable to get the look I was aiming for. This has to be a simple fix & I’m just missing something…

Any help would be appreciated

Hello,

Make sure to never any theme files directly. Always make your CSS customizations from your Child theme’s custom.css or you’ll have trouble ever updating the theme in the future. In this case, theme.css isn’t actually used. It’s the source of the minified theme.min.css which is uses.

For CSS changes, it’s a good idea to use a tool like firebug or Google Chrome’s built-in developer tools to locate them and then put the edits either in your child theme‘s custom.css or in the “Custom CSS” option on your theme options page.

Also, here’s a helpful tutorial on how to use Firebug – http://vimeo.com/20917974. The only thing I’d suggest not doing is actually making edits to the theme’s CSS files, as it shows at the end of that video. However, the video serves as a good introduction to Firebug and how it can be used to find what CSS is effecting certain areas of your site without ever digging around in any files.

Is there a tutorial on child themes? I have used those in the past, I get how they work, just confused on how to start it up & make sure it communicates with actual theme – I haven’t done one in awhile.
