About US options?

    Greetings, I am using Alyeska and I love it–but I was curious if anyone could advise me on what the best way to do great looking about us pages are? The kind of page where it has like a picture of a person and their title and email and such (for about 20 employees)?

    Plugin? Somethign that’s already built in that I’m missing? Manually create from columns and pictures?

    I’m honestly not aware of any plugins, but I’m definitely not the one to know all the best plugins out there.

    As far as what’s in the theme and WordPress by default, you’re going to have to get creative with the design of your page and the elements you use on it. At your exposure you have a few things that might be helpful.

    1. You can use the class “pretty” on an image to give it a frame.

    2. You can use the class “alignright” or “alignleft” on an image to position the images to the right or left of text

    3. You have the theme’s column shortcodes if you want to arrange content in various ways on the page.

    Thanks Jason! I think just setting up a page as a portfolio is going to work nicely–I will name the post the person’s name and then their title will be the excerpt. This will work EXCEPT for two things I’m hoping I can get around:

    1) Most importantly, I really really need to remove the “Read More” button from the portfolio grid. I am just going to have the pictures link to lightboxed larger images OR if the person actually has some info that needs to be displayed I’ll have it lead to the post page. So how can I get rid of the “Read More” button under all the images? (I notice swagger is like this but Aleyska is not).
    2) How can I tighten up the Excerpt text to the post title on the portfolio grid page? Right now the person’s name is in a good spot but the excerpt text starts too low beneath it (I’d like to bring it up to look like single spacing basically). I assume I can maybe throw something into the custom CSS?

    1) You can remove this from your Theme Options, I believe. Appearance > Theme Options > Content > Post Grids

    2) Yes, these kinds of things are CSS customizations you’d need to make to the theme.

    For CSS changes, it’s a good idea to use a tool like firebug or Google Chrome’s built-in developer tools to locate them and then put the edits either in your child theme or in the “Custom CSS” option on your theme options page.

    .post_grid .entry-title { ... }

    Also, here’s a helpful tutorial on how to use Firebug – The only thing I’d suggest not doing is actually making edits to the theme’s CSS files, as it shows at the end of that video. However, the video serves as a good introduction to Firebug and how it can be used to find what CSS is effecting certain areas of your site without ever digging around in any files.
