    Hi,

I have the Barely Corporate Responsive theme and am wondering if it’s ok to upgrade to WP 3.6?

Here is the link to my site:

    Hello DC,

It looks like you’re using Barely Corporate v3.1, and while we have recently released the big 4.0 update, your version has been tested in WordPress 3.6 and should be fully compatible.

Here you can see on our previous live demo running Barely Corporate 3.1 with WordPress 3.6:

    Thanks for the quick response.

Stupid question: How do I update to Barely Corporate 4.0? will it work with all the plugins I have?

    thanks,
    DC

How do I update to Barely Corporate 4.0?

Here’s the live link to the new demo if you want to preview it:

Here’s the changelog of everything that changed in the update (see 4.0):

And here’s an outline you can skim that outlines everything you need to be aware of that is different in the way the theme works. Make sure your read this.

Here’s a video that will walk you through the basics of updating a WordPress theme:

And then moving forward from this update, you can setup updates to stream through your WordPress admin:

Will it work with all the plugins I have?

This is sort of an impossible question for me to answer, but this is a great example of why you should never update any major plugins or your current theme on a live website without any testing in a staged environment.

You should always make updates responsibly and with caution. When you push to your live website, you should know everything is going to work. Many web hosts now provide affordable solutions for creating staging environments for WordPress for testing so you can then push to the live server.

If you’re just managing a site individually and you don’t have to worry about a team of people reviewing the changes, you can always do just more of the “average joe” solution and setup a local install of your site with a free application like MAMP (for Mac) or WAMP (for Windows). Then just make sure your updates items all work together in a safe, local testing environment of WordPress on your computer.
