    Just posted this at wordpress.org:
After upgrading to WP 3.8 “Widget areas” gives a fatal error at the back end and makes the front end goes blank.
I deleted all other plugins (on a test site) and when trying to activate this one plugin… Game over
Removing the plugin solves the problem.
    Thanks,
    Kjetil
PS The other theme-blvd plugins I use still work: Featured image link override + Image sizes
I have not tried with other themes.

The error message at the back end:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare themeblvd_get_sidebar_id() (previously declared in /home/dolcevit/public_html/travel/wp-content/themes/alyeska/framework/api/sidebars.php:340) in /home/dolcevit/public_html/travel/wp-content/plugins/theme-blvd-widget-areas/includes/general.php on line 180

    Hello,

This means you’re combing the old version of Alyeska with the Widget Areas plugin. Have another look at the versions of everything you’re using.

But this error couldn’t possibly have anything to do with the version of WordPress you’re using. I’ll explain. — The old version of the theme used to include the themeblvd_get_sidebar_id() in the theme. Then, at some point we moved the function to the plugin. And in PHP, you can’t have a function declared twice. So, the only explanation is that you’re using a version of the theme that declares that function, and thus is old. Is possible you’re getting your versions of stuff mixed up?

You are so right. My mistake. Sorry.
I had forgotten to update the theme on nye test site, and with that in place everything works. Of course.
I tried to be quick – thought it would be useful for you too to know – but obviously I was too quick.
    Thanks for your explanation
    Kjetil
