Viewing on Mobile Devices

When someone views my site on an iPhone, the mobile site comes up. The problem is that embedded videos do not display properly. Someone needs to know to scroll to the bottom to “view full site” for it to properly display.

Is there a setting or adjustment I can make to correct this? Or is this something that will work itself out when the theme is updated as responsive? Ir something else again?

    Any advice?

    Hello,

This is an older theme that currently does not come with any kind of responsive or mobile features. So, it sounds like maybe you’re using a 3rd-party plugin to achieve this functionality. You may want to get in contact with them.

In general, if you’re embedding Flash videos only, these will never work on iOS. It’s just a crappy reality in an Adobe vs Apple war that will never end. This is why you need to explore embedding HTML5 videos. This will actually be supported natively in WordPress 3.6, which is pretty cool.

But until then, you can get this functionality through this plugin: http://wordpress.org/plugins/media-element-html5-video-and-audio-player/

Note: I point you to this plugin because it’s actually what’s been ported into WordPress 3.6.

It is actually a youtube video.

The output here doesn’t actually correspond to this WordPress theme in any way. This corresponds to the jetpack plugin you’re using for mobile. You’re forwarding to a completely different theme controlled by Jetpack plugin when you view your site on mobile, if that makes sense.

    Here is Jetpack support: http://wordpress.org/support/plugin/jetpack

While not “responsive” the theme should display just fine on mobile devices, including your YouTube video, if you want to turn off the plugin you’re using.

    Possibly helpful: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/jetpack-shortcode-embeds-not-showing-up-in-post

Also I think Jetpack has a “Shortcode Embeds” module that allows for a slightly alternate way of embedding YouTube videos? You could try that, too. Jetpack isn’t something I use; so I don’t know a whole lot about it.

Thanks Jason. It was JetPack that was causing the problem. I deactivated the “Mobile” module and it displays fine. I will look at the link in your latest post to see if there is something there that may be further help but for now, it is fine.

    gratefully

    steve
