All home page Builder options gone after site move

    Hello,

I changed over a site over night. The old non-WP site was on one host. New site is WP is on a different host. I had a home page set up using the Builder. After doing what needs doing in WP when you change a site over (same domain name and site was built on host #2 above) and changed the domain name on the server. Waited until the new site was propagated so I could see it.

I then used the (suggested by WordPress) Blue Velvet Update URLs plugin to fix the image paths that of course needed path changes because the site was developed under a temporary domain name.

When I refreshed the home page, all the content from Builder was gone as in I now have a bare home page other than the sidebar. The Builder did not save these anywhere that I can find like you see available in the inactive widgets area. I was not using widgets I was using columns and other things in Builder. And mean like the regular widgets area that every WP site has when I refer to the inactive widgets area.

Can someone PLEASE tell me where I can recover my stuff from Builder? I now have a live site with nothing on the home page but the sidebar.

    Thank you!

What does this means in terms of transferring your MySQL database? How did you transfer your database from one host to the other? At any time did you open and edit your .sql file? Or at any time did you access your database through PHPMyAdmin and manually edit any fields on previous host or new host?

Do you have access to your previous site? Do you have access to the SQL copy of your old database?

What version of Barely Corporate was the layout saved from on the previous site?

Can someone PLEASE tell me where I can recover my stuff from Builder?

If you’ve tampered with the current database in any way that would cause you to lose serialized data, the data would just be gone. The only way would be to do the database transfer over again, but keep certain things in mind that we can discuss after I have a better idea of what you did above, trying to figure out where you went wrong.

However, if you don’t have access to the old site or your un-modified database copy of the old site, there’s realistically no way to get the data back. You’d just to take a 10 minutes and just build the layout again, which I understand would be annoying.

I’ve never tried to use the Velvet Blues Update URLs plugin, so I can’t say if it’s the cause or not. I always use the following script for changing the URL’s which I never have a problem with.

If you have access to the old site in its entirety, you can actually do a standard WordPress export of the custom layouts and import them on the new site. Note this will only work if you’ve saved your layouts with Barely Corporate v3.1+.

I didn’t need to transfer a database, the previous site on the other host was static.

The development site was built on domainame1.com which when it’s time to take it live you can just change on the server to the real domain name after you do what you need to do in the WP general settings.

No manual edits were done, I never went into myphpadmin. The only changes that would have been made would have been when I switched the domain within the WP settings. The home page was there when the site first came up, it was after I used the Velvet Blues that it disappeared. I tried to reverse this using Velvet Blues but it didn’t work.

The css file says: Version: 3.1.4 but I don’t know if that’s what you mean by version. If not, where do I find what you need?

Uh, 10 minutes will not do the trick. I can put the columns and stuff back in but what was IN the columns, no way I can do this from memory. I don’t even have a screen shot to go from. I wasn’t expecting this to happen.

The only way to get access to the development site under the temporary URL would be to change everything back over to that site name and I don’t even know if that would work.

I just rec’d the most recent SQL backup so we’re going to try that.

We are having success with the SQL backup!

Suggestion, maybe you could consider for future upgrades/themes to have the Builder/Slider area work like the widgets area? Have an “inactive” area that the Builder things pop into like widgets do when things go kafluey? Just a thought …
