Unresponsive script

    Hi there,

I am having some issues trying to link a Button within a Hero Unit to the correct page. I keep getting an error message that says I have an unresponsive script. I thought it might have something to do with the plugins I installed, so I uninstalled them all and systematically added each one back in one at a time. The plugin that seems to cause the issue is the Theme Blvd Layout Builder. When I add that back in, I get the popup that says I have an unresponsive script.

Please advise on how to address the bug in the script.

    Thanks!
    Holley

    Hi,

Apologies, but I’m not sure I’m understanding the issue. Where exactly are you getting this error? On the frontend of your site or somewhere in the admin? Maybe you could post a link to a screenshot?

When I click to your site, I see a hero unit with buttons linking successfully to different pages. So I’m a bit confused to what you’re asking, is all.

    Hi Jason,

Thanks for your quick reply. The error message is in the admin when I’m trying to make any changes at all to the home page. Image link here: https://drive.google.com/a/advdigitalconsulting.com/file/d/0B-Kd5d4lkQSFem1kUmNoZWxVVkE/view?usp=sharing

While the 3rd slider does successfully link to a page, it’s not the page I have requested it to link to. No matter what I try, it only links back to the home page. I’ve deleted the button and created a new one and tried to link to several other pages, but it only points to the home page.

    Thanks,
    Holley

Generally javascript issues like this are because of a plugin conflict or something specific to your site.

Now, I totally get you’ve gone through and deactivated all plugins, and think you’ve come to the conclusion it must be our layout builder plugin. However, I can tell you from experience that the Edit Page/Post screen is probably the most complex screen in the WordPress admin when it comes to javascript because you’ve got so many plugins potentially adding to it. When plugins include scripts that already exist in WordPress core, these all get bundled together into one giant script for the sake of efficiency. This then gets cached in your web browser. So, it’s possible that by deactivating the layout builder plugin, you’re just changing that build of the cached WordPress javascript file, and that’s why the error goes away.

Basically, long story short, this means that after every plugin you deactivate to test if it is causing the issue, you need to clear your web browser cache to actually know. This is especially true if you’re using the Chrome browser, as it has a very aggressive cache.

If you have disabled all third-party plugins, and it’s just my theme and plugins running (including layout builder), and you’re still getting the error, feel free to send me your login info, and I will be glad to login and take a look. If you send the info, make sure to post back here so I know you sent the info.

That makes a lot of sense. I am away from the computer all day tomorrow but will try this on Friday and let you know how it goes. Thanks.

You were right, Jason. We found the culprit…it was the Give-Donation plugin. I’ll use the Gravity Forms solution instead. Thanks for all your help!
