Theme Option Issues

I just installed JS 2 to use on a new build and I seem to be having some issues with the theme options. I tried adding some columns to the footer in Theme Options > Layout > Footer but it kept reverting back to the default Hide option.

Also, when I try to add/delete social icons in the header top area in Theme Options > Layout > Header it just takes me back to the top of the page when I click on any of the social drop downs.

Have you heard this from anyone else? I have never had this happen on any other sites so it could be a conflict with something but everything else in the theme options seems to be working fine.

    Hi,

No, I haven’t heard of this, but the common thing between both things you described is that the theme options page is using javascript to do them. (1) When you setup your columns, javascript is populating fields in the background that have to save. (2) And obviously javascript is used to add new buttons to social icons and allow you to sort them around and what not — So what you’re saying sounds like javascript is broken in some way.

Hm, possibly you have another plugin installed that interferes in some way in the admin panel? Or perhaps this site previously had the old jumpstart theme activated on it and you didn’t clear your browser cache after?

I thought it was weird because I’ve never had an issue with it before. It did turn out to be a conflict with another plugin but I have used it many times before with no issues. Once I deactivated it though, everything worked fine in the theme options.

I’m not sure on that one. Generally speaking you shouldn’t get these kind of conflicts with the Theme Options page, because you’d hope that if a plugin were including javascript, they wouldn’t just be randomly applying it to all pages of the WordPress admin panel. The exception I guess is if the plugin actually adds something requiring javascript across the entire admin panel (most plugins obviously wouldn’t be doing this).

One thing I can say though, that I’ve really only seen the importance of in the last year and helping people on their sites. When you’re making updates to WordPress, plugins, or the theme, it’s really important to clear your web browser cache. Now, that may be obvious to a lot of people but one thing that isn’t, is that (because of how WordPress compiles scripts) it’s important to clear your browser cache, even if you’re just deactivating a plugin to check if it was the cause of some issue. In other words, clear your cache after the state of anything has changed… especially if you’re using Chrome.

I had the same issue. It was the wp editor plugin that was causing the conflict for me.

Travis, I guess I should have mentioned it but that was the same plugin that caused the issue for me. As soon as I deactivated wp editor the problem went away.
