In the demo, “Demo”, which links to the post list, has a star next to it.

How do I get this to display?

In your CSS class for the menu item, you’d add the class “menu-icon-star”. When editing your menu at Appearance > Menus, if you do not see the CSS classes field for the menu items, you need to set it to display from the “Screen Options” tab in the top right corner of the screen.

See here for more info on how icons integrate into the menus:

    Thanks, worked perfectly.

Small update to the question. While adding the class in the parent theme works great, the same class in an unaltered child theme no longer shows the star. Is there something else I need to do for this?

Scratch that. The menu locations were not yet set. Once I set them, things were fine.
