ParticipantIs there some exclusion that you cannot put a slider at the bottom of your page? I cannot seem to get it to take when I update. It’s just an empty space. And I’ve tried to put in the primary area and also in the feature area below the primary area.
Thanks for your help.

KeymasterHello El,
You should be able to put a slider in these places. Can you tell me a little more about what your’e doing? Maybe you can show me a link to where you’re trying to do this? Are you doing this in a custom layout in the Layout Builder?

ParticipantHi Jason,
I’m in the layout builder. I will send you a couple of screen shots – one of what the layout builder looks like and also of the outcome. Not sure which link you need, so I’m giving you two for each shot.

KeymasterI was just asking about the link to your site so I can see the issue, but I was able to get the link from your screenshots. So, it looks like you’ve got some javascript errors, and I’m honestly not sure where they’re coming from with the initial look.
A couple of weeks ago, we came out with a huge update that changes a lot of things. I would start with updating to the latest version 3.0 (you’re currently on 2.1), and then let’s see where we’re at with this frontend javascript issue.
Here’s the changelog of everything that changed in the update (see 3.0):
http://themeblvd.com/changelog?theme=alyeska
And here’s an outline you can skim that outlines everything you need to be aware of that is different in the way the theme works:
http://support.themeblvd.com/updating-to-framework-v2-3/
It looks like you’re just starting to configure your website with the theme, so this should be an easy transition for you, but will help you out a lot down the line as WordPress continues to get updated and the theme, along with it.

ParticipantOk, I will give that a try. BUT will it be OK to use Option #1 (the quick way) for uploading the new version or does this new version have a Child Theme, thus requiring me to use an FTP client to manually upload? I do not currently have an FTP client and have no experience using one?

KeymasterA Child theme is something you use if you’re making code customizations. This doesn’t have anything to do with the old or new theme. I can see you’re not using a Child theme on your site, and so that isn’t anything you need to worry about. So, you can use method #1 from this video if you want.
Moving forward for the future, after updating to Alyeska 3, there’s an updater in place that will pull updates from Envato servers into your WordPress admin. Here’s more info on that:

ParticipantHi Jason,
For some reason, my post got deleted. So let’s try this again.
I followed all of your instructions from the link to the video above, but unfortunately, not only was the problem not fixed, but I did not get the plugins with the theme and had to add them AND I lost the background I had created along with “home” on the menu.
Just to confirm:
1) I uploaded the new version (3.0.2) using Option #1 from the video.
2) I had to do an extra few steps to add the plugins because they were lost when I installed the theme.
3) I lost my background (which will be a lot more difficult to get than it was the first time)
4) I lost “home” on the menu bar.
5) I again tried to add the slider at the bottom. I deleted my original attempt and tried again, but it did not work.
What to do now?

Keymaster2) I had to do an extra few steps to add the plugins because they were lost when I installed the theme.
Yup, as described in detail in both this article and your changelog that I linked you to previously, a lot of functionality was moved to plugins. This was one of the biggest aspects of the update.
Maybe for future reference if you’re ever installing the theme somewhere else, checkout the theme installation video from the beginning of your theme’s included documentation that shows you how to install the theme and plugins quickly in one shot. Personally, I think this is the most efficient way to get going with the theme and recommended plugins.
3) I lost my background (which will be a lot more difficult to get than it was the first time)
As the video shows linked to in that update article, setting up a background is now pretty straight forward and simply utilizes built-in WordPress functionality.
Go to Appearance > Background and upload the background image you want to use from the included 225 background images in your ThemeForest download package. I don’t think it’s really worth it to manage 224 extra background images on your server just so you can flip the little skin option the theme used to have. Having these actually caused a lot of issues previously for customers because many webhosts do not support uploading a WordPress theme that is so large in size (because of all the background images).
4) I lost “home” on the menu bar.
It doesn’t look like you’ve setup any kind of menu yet. Go to Appearance > Menus, create a menu, and apply it to the theme’s “Primary Navigation” menu location. If you’ve never used this feature of WordPress, make sure you get to know it, as this will be the process for essentially any modern theme; most themes now utilize this built-in WordPress functionality.
5) I again tried to add the slider at the bottom. I deleted my original attempt and tried again, but it did not work.
So, I’m looking closer at what looks like three sliders you’ve put on the current page. I’m noticing that the first two don’t have more than one slide to transition through, and the last one doesn’t have any slides.
Let’s start by going to your “Sliders” manager and making sure that all three sliders have at least two slides in them. Then let’s see how the page is looking.

ParticipantHi Jason,
Thanks for the detailed info. This will be helpful going forward.
But as far as the sliders, I don’t really want sliders. I want something static. Basically, I just want to insert photos to illustrate the message I am trying to get across on my homepage. But I don’t want to use post grid because they won’t be posts or linked to anything. And I have been unable to find anywhere directions on how to just insert a photo, so I thought that making a slider static was basically just the way to insert a photo. Is basic photo insertion even an option?

KeymasterAw, okay, I think understand a little more what you’re trying to accomplish. Yeah, I would suggest not using a slider for this purpose. In your custom layout, I would just use content elements and put images in them.
While editing the “Content” element, if you select for the “Raw Content” input option, you can use basic HTML to insert an image like:
<img src="http://yoursite.com/uploads/image.jpg" class="thumbnail" />
Or, if you’re not comfortable with this, you can select to display content from an external page and insert your images there. Checkout this video for more info on that:

ParticipantHi Jason,
I thought I was well on my way to creating what I had envisioned. And I began creating my blog page when I noticed that there was a stray picture at the bottom of my blog page and also my homepage. But I didn’t put it there, and I can’t find an element that corresponds to this photo. The photo is used above on the homepage (where it should be and in the size I want it to be). But I don’t know why it is on both of my pages as a thumbnail.
Help.
Thanks,
EL

KeymasterCheckout your footer options on your theme options page. That’s where I think you inserted that, I believe.

ParticipantTHANK YOU, Jason.
I don’t remember doing that. I must have done it accidentally early on. And thank you for pointing me to the footer section. I was wondering how to find that.
Cross your fingers that this is the last of my problems.
Thanks again, for your help.
