Post content showing twice

Hi – and congrats with your new forums!
I’m setting up a new site with posts on one spesific page – saagodt.com/siste-nytt/
Now, the two test posts show up as they should as “framed” posts in a post list – but one of them (“Foto shoot”) ALSO appear above the post list.

I have selected “Siste nytt” as the posts’ page in Settings>Reading
In the page settings for “Siste nytt” I have tried both using the Default template and to use a custom template (set up in the Builder). Same problem either way.
The “Siste nytt” page itself is empty. The custom template now used contains only a “Post list” with all settings inside left untouched.
Some simple setting I’ve overlooked, a bug in the theme, or…?
    Thanks,
    Kjetil
WP 3.5, Akita 1.1.5, a modest use of plugins

PS I’ll buy another license for this site as soon as I’m 100% sure which theme we’ll use. I’ve bought 3 so far – you don’t have any handy bundles for moderate reuse of themes?

    Hello,

Now, the two test posts show up as they should as “framed” posts in a post list – but one of them (“Foto shoot”) ALSO appear above the post list.

Did you figure out the issue? I only see the post one time on your page. But when I read your question, my initial thought was maybe you made it a sticky post or something.

PS I’ll buy another license for this site as soon as I’m 100% sure which theme we’ll use. I’ve bought 3 so far – you don’t have any handy bundles for moderate reuse of themes?

No, sorry, but all themes and sales are handled through ThemeForest. They don’t give me any control over sales or licenses.

Thanks for you coming back to me
    No, the issue isn’t solved.
If I understand you correctly, you see something else on that page than I do. I’m referring to the text just under the main menu, above the two post boxes. Here is what I see – the six lines of text starts “Vi møttes…” and ends “…har ikke sånt.” It looks the same in all my browsers and devices.
If you don’t see it, its hard to know what other visitors see – if this isn’t just some kind om caching here on my computer(s).
If you see it too, – any idea how I can make those six lines disappear?
    Thanks again,
    Kjetil

Yes, I see the six lines of text the same as in your screenshot.

In your custom layout you have a “Content” element above the “Post List” that has those six lines of text. I guess I’m not understanding what the issue is? Do you not want those six lines of text there? Are you misunderstanding that you have a “Content” element above your Post List?

Apologies, I’m trying to follow, but am just finding the situation a little confusing.

    Thanks for your patience.
What confuses me is that this Content element shouldn’t have been there. I’ve made a custom layout using the Builder – and this layout only contains a “Post list”. Nothing more. So, without a “Content” element in the layout, I believed no “content” should appear, just the post list.
In other words: You are quite right regarding what I wish to accomplish, at page with just a post list.
    Have I misunderstood something completely?

I now have found a way around: By showing the posts (all in one category) as a category list, the posts’ page show up as I’d like them to – here. No extra content above the posts.
    The only way?

    Some other details:
    – The “content” that appears, by the way, is just the content of the “Foto shoot” post (which also shows up in the post list).
    – I’ve tried switching the posts’ page (in this case defined to the “Siste nytt” page”) to the “Default layout”, but the same happened.
    – The “Siste nytt” page itself is empty (is only used as a place to display the posts).

    Thanks again,
    Kjetil

Everything is behaving as expected, but I think you may have yourself mixed up on which custom layouts you’re editing.

You have currently have two layouts. One is called “forside1” and it is set as your homepage under Appearance > Content > Homepage.

In this custom layout you have two elements:

    1. Content Element
    2. Post List Element

In the Content Element, you’ve selected to show the content from the current page as its content source. Because this custom layout is not assigned to a static page, there is no page to pull content from, and thus the result is that it’s pulling content from the first post in the queue.

So, how to get rid of the six lines of text above your post list in your custom layout? — Go to Layout Builder. Edit the “forside1” layout. Delete the “Content” element.

And an even better solution? — If all you’re wanting to show on your homepage is a post list and nothing else, you don’t even need a custom layout at all. Simply go to Appearance > Theme Options > Content > Homepage > Homepage Content and select “Posts”. The theme’s default state is already a standard WordPress Blog setup.

    Thanks again
Problem solved – though in an other way than you might think.
First: I had used the layouts as I intended. “Forside” = Front page and “Innleggsside” = post page in Norwegian.
But it seemed that the selections I’d made somehow mixed up:
I had – in the Settings > Reading: front page set to static/ “Smaken av Italia” and post page set to “Siste nytt”
    and in
Appearance > Theme options > Content > Homepage / Homepage content (set to custom layout – “forside1”.

Everything works fine after I disconnected the custom layouts from those two pages (the front page “Smaken av Italia” and the post page “Siste nytt”)
    and
(left the Settings > Reading as described above and)
switched Appearance > Theme options > Content > Homepage / Homepage content to “Posts”

I believe the latter setting shouldn’t be like that, but it works. In a way I’ve set both “Siste nytt” and the front page “Smaken av Italia” to show posts, but…
    – just happy to have it all in place.

Thanks for your time an effort looking into things,
    Kjetil

The settings exist the way they do for some important reasons behind the scenes and a lot of thought has been put into them. If you’re curious, this is from the Alyeska FAQ over on ThemeForest.

    ========

There are two completely separate methods you can do to set the custom layout you’ve built as your homepage.

Method 1: Create your custom layout, apply it to a static page, and then assign that page as your static frontpage under Settings > Reading > Frontpage Displays.

Method 2: Under Settings > Reading > Frontpage Displays, select “your latest posts.” Create your custom layout. Then, go to Appearance > Theme Options > Content > Homepage, and select your new custom layout as the content for the homepage. If you’re using an element in your custom layout that uses post pagination, make sure you use this method.
