Media upload failing

I just had strange experience with WP 3.5, installed on Servage hosting server and custom child theme. Every time I would upload an image, in the upload area, an empty image would appear and nothing was uploaded (checked on FTP). Tried different things (disabling plugins, changing upload folder permissions, …), changing a theme to something else (and instantly back), but nothing happened.
Then I switched a theme to twenty twelve again, uploaded an image there, and it worked without problems. But after going back to the same child theme, upload still works.
Any thoughts? Keeping posted if something changes.

I’m not totally sure. It could just be that maybe theme registers so many crop sizes that it’s pushing some kind of limit on your server when you upload an image?
