Images in Custom Menu

    Is it possible to display small images in custom menus that would display in the left or right sidebars? I know it could probably be done with Smartblocks but wondering if the Alyeska theme supports this more naturally?

    The look I am trying to achieve can be seen here: http://oi43.tinypic.com/jskidf.jpg
    This was done with an older plugin called Accordion Image Menu which I am not using because it conflicts with the slider feature in Alyeska.

    Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

    I also realize this can be done with image widget but am looking for something cleaner that displays the image title over the image.

    And yet another way is with simple image captions.. but oh how time consuming that is.

    Hello,

    Apologies, but there is not feature in the theme for this. It sounds like you’re going down the most viable path outside of just making your own customizations — that being to essentially just find a plugin that’ll do what you’re looking for. You can find free plugins on wordpress.org and paid ones on codecanyon.net.

    I’ve personally not tried to create what you’re doing or explored plugins that others have created for that; so I don’t really have anything to recommend unfortunately.

    But if you’re essentially just looking to put images stacked in the sidebar, you could just do that with basic HTML in a Text widget? Maybe something like this:

    <a href="http://yoursite.com/somehere">
    	<img src="http://yoursite.com/uploads/image1.jpg" class="pretty" />
    </a>
    <a href="http://yoursite.com/somehere">
    	<img src="http://yoursite.com/uploads/image2.jpg" class="pretty" />
    </a>
    <a href="http://yoursite.com/somehere">
    	<img src="http://yoursite.com/uploads/image3.jpg" class="pretty" />
    </a>

    Jason,

    No worries.. I found a workaround with good ‘ol image captions. You can see it top left corner (work in progress):

    The only problem with this workaround is that if the menu path changes, I have to recreate the smartblock. So that’s why I was wondering if the theme (or wordpress) supported better automation. I didn’t find a plugin that achieved this look but will admit didn’t look for more than 5 mins!

    I realize there are other ways to display this information but its all about what the client wants, ya know? The client wants to see small images just above each text hyperlink.

    LOVE THIS THEME. It’s quite possibly one of the best on the web.

    Best Regards,
    Joel
