Editing pages with custom layouts

I have just downloaded the theme and find I can’t edit pages – there is no HTML option available. I’m using 3.5.

When the Edit page is selected I just see a blank page.

Hmm, that seems strange. Send me a login to your WP admin and I’ll check it out. You can send the info through My Account > Submit Private Info here on the support website.

So, I’m still not quite following what the actual issue is. I logged into your site and I can edit pages just fine in your WP admin. What do you mean exactly by, “When the Edit page is selected I just see a blank page.” ? — Can you elaborate a little more? A screenshot maybe? Is it possibly an issue on your specific computer or web browser?

Here’s what I see on your site: http://www.uploadblvd.com/uploads/image_50ea08e4d0f90.png

Note: WordPress changed the name of the “HTML” tab to “Text” in WP 3.5. I’m not sure if that’s causing any confusion for you.

Using the default template I can see content I paste in, but using any of the pre-loaded or custom templates I can’t see any of the dummy text I’ve pasted on the edit page, and the word count is zero. I’ve deleted 3.5 and uploaded the previous version of WP, but it isn’t helping be to view layouts.

I’m assuming I should be able to view layouts on the edit page through the dummy text? I’m using Chrome, have tried FF and IE9 and get the same results , on OS Windows 7 and Windows XP Pro.

I honestly still do not understand what you’re trying to describe. When I logged into your site, I didn’t see anything unusual. I was able to edit pages just fine. Can you please show me a screenshot of what you’re seeing? — http://tinypic.com/

Sorry, I’m not being clear. I’ve just made a fresh installation on another server of both the theme and WP 3.5. I’ve just made one custom template and applied it to the sample page.
The default template shows the same content on the edit and live page.

Using custom layout I don’t see anything on the edit page and can only change content by changing the custom layout. The edit page shows zero characters and anything typed on it doesn’t appear anywhere on the page.

I’m expecting to see the content of the layout with the placeholder text when I go to edit the page with the custom layout applied.

I’ve got about a dozen WP installations on this server so permissions aren’t an issue.

Aw, yeah you’re just misunderstanding how the custom layouts work. A “custom layout” is something you create one instance of; it’s meant to create those one or two special pages like your homepage. You only edit them in the Builder. That then replaces the content of whatever page you apply it to.

Have you checked out the videos series in your documentation on how the custom layouts work? It lays out it pretty clearly if it’s still not quite making sense.

Thanks – I was wondering if that was the case.

Cheers for your help and patience 🙂

In the next update to the theme, we have a meta box that will allow custom layouts to be edited directly from the Edit Page screen in addition to being able to do it from the Layout Builder page. So, hopefully that will make life easier for the people that are creating many custom layouts.

That would be amazing. I love the theme, adding that editing functionality would be icing on the cake.
