Trying to add a simple drop down on a page that links to different pages on my site.

Why does this seem so hard to accomplish in WordPress?

The theme supports adding dropdown menus to your main navigation. Although, WordPress does not include any widget or anything for making a <select> style dropdown menu of pages that would go in other places.

I’d search over in the plugin repo for different options:

http://wordpress.org/plugins/

You can find tons of potential widgets and what not you could use to link to pages from a sidebar in different ways.
