    Is there anyway to change or add a sidebar to the category page? Other than changing the theme options to the default sidebar.

    Hello,

    So, you’re looking to change the actual sidebar layout? No, there’s option for this; it would be a customization you’d need to make.

    See this article:

    http://dev.themeblvd.com/tutorial/sidebar-layouts/#custom

    And here are how WordPress conditionals work:

    If you’re not changing the sidebar layout, and you just want to adjust the sidebar that’s shown on category pages, you can do this by creating a custom sidebar under Appearance > Widget Areas.

    Sorry, I misspoke, I do not want to change the sidebar layout. I want to add a sidebar to the category page. Example: “http://wptest.reallifeministries.com/category/featured/”. Right now in my Theme Options under Layout, I have the Default Sidebar Layout set to None. I need it set to none for most of the site. I have already gone into the Widget Areas and set the Category Archive to the appropriate one. Though when I go to the above category page it does not show the sidebar. Hopefully this helps in clarifying my question.

    Is there anyway to accomplish this without creating a child theme?

    I want to add a sidebar to the category page.

    So what you are talking about is the changing the sidebar layout because currently it’s set to “Full Width”, meaning there’s no place for a sidebar. Once you change the sidebar layout to “Sidebar Right” then you have your sidebar come in.

    This would be the only way:

    http://dev.themeblvd.com/tutorial/sidebar-layouts/#custom

    function my_sidebar_layout( $sidebar_layout ) {

        if( is_category() ) {
            $sidebar_layout = 'sidebar_right';
    	}

        return $sidebar_layout;

    }
    add_filter( 'themeblvd_sidebar_layout', 'my_sidebar_layout' );

    Is there anyway to accomplish this without creating a child theme?

    No, unfortunately there’s no feature to designate a sidebar layout just for category archives. You would need to do it through code customization.

    Maybe this would also be helpful:
